Hey everyone, hope you've enjoyed your school holidays. As you all know, school starts on Tuesday,3rd january. Please know that THERE IS PRACTICE at 2:30pm at the NEW GUITAR room aka ISR2(beside I&E room) which is directly above the hall(take the staircase that is just outside the canteen to the third floor and the room is just beside it). Also, we have to perform for cca promotion day for the new batch of sec1s this year ,so we have to practice hard as its just this Friday(6/1). Please do report punctually and remember to bring your scores tuners etc.One more thing is PLEASE BRING $16.50 to pay for your new guitar tee. Hello everybody, practice resumes on Tuesday 27th December. There would also be an outing after practice has ended. We would be going with sir to watch Sherlock Holmes and then go bowling. We would really appreciate it all of u guys would come as its a good time to bond as an ensemble. So if you're coming please bring an extra set of clothes to change into after practice. As for the new guitar tee. It costs $16.50, try to bring the money and pay as soon as u can. As for those who went to Malaysia you are required to bring the FOOTSTOOLS, STANDS AND GUITARS that the school has loaned you back on the 27th (this also applies to the sec4s that went). You all Should always Put the tuner a proper place after use . Your Seniors , Teachers and instructors have been Bringing This Ensemble Well. We hope You all Will be More Discipline. Do things at the right Time.

Hi guys,

I have been hearing that a handful of you guys {sec 1s} have been toying with the idea that you want to quit guitar ensemble.

This is a very serious issue as it will affect your overall holistic grade and will produce a negative effect on you upon graduation. I emphasise again, YOU.

And this is not to be taken lightly because it's alot of trouble to transfer or drop out. Moreover, it's not like "I want to go then just go lor" kind of thing will happen. It's not as easy to drop out any-oh-how as you wish or please.

My point is, if you are having difficulty - be it in the emotional issues, social problems or anything that is hindering you from enjoying yourself in guitar PLEASE ADDRESS IT IMMEDIATELY. Feel free to approach/consult me. I really want to help you guys and ensure that everything goes well for you in the ensem. SMS me if you need a listening ear okay?

Till then, to those whom I heard you want to quit Guitar, you will be expecting a SMS from me very very soon.

Odyssey Concert at VCH - 2010/03/30 Tues

Hey guys,

Tomorrow's the actual concert already... Are you guys scared? Nervous? Excited? Oh well, what matters is that you guys have practiced reallly hard and I'm sure you'll all do fine. Just remember what you are supposed to play, tone, dynamics and throw the audience off the seats okay? Remember: We're gonna sound imba tomorrow. Period :D

Anyways, here's a reminder to bring all your performance stuff and report to the Music Room at 7.20 am in your guitar tee-shirt and pants. School long pants/shorts are fine too. I know that some of your guitar shirts may be too small but you still gotta wear it because it'll be easier to identify you. Be comfortable and CLEAN. Also please remember to iron your shirts okay... Don't wear creased ones please. Makes you look reallly sloppy.

Anyway, let's all gear ourselves up and put up a great show tomorrow night okay? Have an early night. Rest well and get ready for some serious camwhoring tomorrow as well :D And for the sec 1s, it's gonna be the first time you see your seniors performing in a formal setting, so keep your eyes and ears WIDE OPEN okay? Hope you guys will enjoy it.

Then, go to the music room at 3 pm to collect guitars and footstools. Please bring along your scores too.

After that's done, we'll all gather at the Foyer at 3.20 sharp to board the bus. We should be back in school by 6.30 to keep the guitars, and from there you will be dismissed.

this is a reminder for ALL Senior & Junior Ensem people to turn up for tomorrow's practice at 9am, CPA4 for Senior Ensem and ISR2 for Junior Ensem. For those who were not here, please be reminded you need to produce a parent's letter or MC to cover up for your absence.

We are left with two weeks to polish up our skills and to tighten whatever loose screws. So make the best out of the pracs okay? Remember it'll all be paid off when we showcase our awesome performance on the 30th;

And if I am not wrong, there will be auditions tomorrow; So prepare yourself yeah. MIDI tracks are on the left side on this page towards the bottom under "BOX Account". All tracks can be downloaded and I strongly encourage you to listen to the tracks to familiarize yourself better.

- Thursday, 18 Mar' 10 / 0900 hrs - 1200 hrs / CPA4 or ISR2
- Friday, 19 Mar' 10 / 0900 hrs - 1200 hrs / CPA4 or ISR2

For the Senior Ensem, here is your practice dates:

Attire for VCH Concert 30 Mar 2010

NOTE: THIS POST ONLY APPLIES FOR THE SEC 2 STUDENTS

Hey guys;

for those of you who don't know yet, the concert is on 30th march 2010. That leaves us 24 days (a mere 3 weeks and 3 days!) more to tighten things up such as sounding as one, tone, dynamics, uniformity etc to sound very awesome and imba on that day. However, sounding good on stage is not complete if we don't LOOK VERY GOOD AND AWESOME on stage too :D So, make sure you get your attire that's of the specified requirements.

1. Standard Working Class Black Shirt

-Long Sleeve with pocket
-Must be plain,
-Strictly no stripes, embossed textures, heart imprints whatsoever
-Buttons must be black as well if possible

2. Standard black working pants

-Strictly no stripes or other textures.
-Tapering of pants is STRICTLY forbidden.
-Pants must be long enough to cover the top of shoes

3. Standard working class black shoes

-Must be full black.
-Polyester high shine shoes are not allowed.
-Keep logos to a minimum (can refer to the ones who bought at Mustafa the other day)
-No laces allowed.

4. Standard working class black belt

-Standard SILVER/BLACK Buckles. Gold buckles are NOT allowed.
-Black
-No fanciful buckles that are spammed with glittery diamond lining or 77th street style buckles whose surface areas are large enough to cover your entire face etcetc.

5. Black Socks

-Must cover the ankle FULLY
-Black
-No ankle or boat socks allowed.

6. Ties

-To buy from your seniors

GENUS Asian Folk Tales Concert Attendance

This is a reminder to all Sec 1s and 2s to confirm their attendance with me by this thursday night. Afterwhich if there's no reply from you then I'll take it as you're not coming.

Here's the general information about the concert. Do ask your parents for permission if you need to and sms me/facebook me/tell me verbally when you see me in school.

Date: 07 March 2010 (Sunday)
Time: 8 pm-9.30 pm
Venue: NUS University Cultural Centre
Ticket Price: $12

This is NOT a compulsory activity as it's a sunday night and you guys (including me) have school the next day. Hence do take note of this too;

As of now, I only have 5 people interested. They are:

3. Darren Tan / 1E3
4. Ling Jingheng / 1E4

This is a reminder to all Sec 1s and 2s to turn up for practice tomorrow at 3 pm, but you must be at the music room by 2.45 pm at the CPA Lab 3/4. This rule will be strictly adhered to and NO excuse will be accepted if you come and tell us "because you never tell me what..." I've mentioned it the last time before and you guys have heard it.

For the sec 3s, if I have remembered clearly you guys need not turn up for practice this week. Go prepare for the camp and enjoy yourselves k :) Here's wishing you a safe and fun journey (:

Lastly, if you look at the tagboard on the left there's this person named "GENUS". They are from the NUS Guitar Ensem and as part of their publicity movement, they've tagged their details about their upcoming concert on 7 March. Do check it out, and I will talk more about it with you guys tomorrow.

Happy Gong Xi Fa Cai (yeah I know it's kinda late...) to ya'll. Hope you guys collected loads of ang pows huh :D

Anyways reminder to you guys to turn up for practice tomorrow, 19/2- 1.45 PM at CPA3/CPA4. You should know which lab to report to for the respective levels.

Hey Sec 1s, 2s and 3s;

Please be remided to turn up for practice at 1.45 pm, CPA4 for Sec 1s and CPA3 for main ensemble. Do not be late. And for the Sec 1s, please be reminded to bring your black file so that you can file your notes/scores neatly.

Lastly, here's some general tips you can try out when practicing your guitars at home. (Currently, it's only applicable to Sec 2s/3s but soon sec 1s you would be playing a song too).

I find the best way to really be able to practice in an ensemble setting at home is by playing your part against the original MIDI track. It's the same concept when you sing along your favourite song; just that now instead of using your vocals you pluck/strum along. What do I mean? That means, you put the MIDI track on play mode and you just play your part along for that song. Simple right? But then again you guys will ask me: "But the MIDI track very fast lehhh.. How?" No worries, follow the following tutorial and it should be able to help abit by being able to slow the speed of the track down:

You should use your Windows Media Player as it's more user-friendly for MIDI tracks; go to the "Now Playing tab" and click that arrow below it. From there you should be able to figure out as the pictures are quite clear.

Not to worry if you are still unsure despite this. I'll go through this again tomorrow. Till then, See you! :)

Hey Sec 1s,

here's a reminder for you to get your BLACK music file for your scores by tomorrow preferbly, if not by Friday 5 Feb 2010.

Remember the color must be black because it's a form of uniformity when you go on stage to perform. Try getting those that allows you to feed pockets. It'll be easier. But not to worry if you are unclear of what I'm talking about. I'll show you guys tomorrow..

Due to the Sec 1 CCA Fair cum Orientation next year which is held on 7 January 2010, there will be practice this Tuesday, 29 Dec @ PM 12.45 and attendance is COMPULSORY.

Those who fail to turn up without a valid reason will be dealt with.

If I am not wrong, it's only for that day... So let's all work hard and give our best at the Orientation to recruit good Sec 1s next year~

KL Trip Pre Departure Briefing / Test Components / Guitar Practice - Tues 2009/12/1

This is a reminder to let you guys know that All students going for KL trip are to stay behind for a breifing at 1 pm on Tuesday after practice. This is compulsory, as all the things you would need to know for the trip (eg itenerary, insurance and what nots) will be explained during this session. So your attendance is important.

Please spread this message around to those who were absent last friday but are going for the trip.

And for the guitar test that all of us will be taking (Sec 1s-Sir / Sec 2&3s-Ms Pan) next week, here is what will be tested so practice hard.

-C Major Scales (1 Octave, 5th position)

-C Major Scales (1 Octave, 7-10th position)

-D Major Scales (2 Octaves)

-G Major Scales (2 Octaves)

-Twinkle Little Star

-Fret Board Knowledge
